Two of the author’s three Schield C-35 Bantam excavator models (the face shovel was in storage when this photo was taken). These are to 1:25 scale and were offered by diecast maker Spec-Cast and are fully operable. They are great models and capture the simplicity of the real thing well. Mounted on a 6x6 custom carrier, this Schield C-35 is yet another survivor, and a rare one at that. Another section could be inserted into the boom, but that reduced the size of the dragline bucket that could be fitted. This example id fitted with the standard 5/8 yard digging bucket. Another surviving Schield C-35, this time a backhoe variant. It is an extremely simple and straightforward design, with no double reeving of any of the cables. The bucket could be adjusted to vary the angle of penetration by removing the pin and moving the link further up the stick to any of 5 different locations. Cable Machine, Pin, Simple, Design, Buckets
