At the intersection of Weld and Sewell Streets, the Hokitika clock tower is a memorial to soldiers who dies in the Boer War in South Africa. It also commemorates the Coronation of Edward VII. Built by Parkinson and Co of Auckland, it cost a thousand pounds. It was unveiled by Prime Minister R J Seddon and his wife 3 June 1903.
