This would be a great way to show students how to infer texts that they are reading. A similar diagram could be composed on the computer and printed as a hand of for reading folders for students. Many students are just learning to infer about what they are reading at the beginning of 4th grade and it continues through to high school.
Vocabulary mastery in the content areas is very important to students' success with the domain. Check out my favorite vocabulary strategy for an activity that you can build into your science units for pre-assessment and vocabulary mastery. Your 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th graders will love using the vocabulary mats/vocabulary cards to learn their science terms!
Each teacher picks their favorite book from the book fair and then students try to guess which teacher chose that particular book. Could also say "Come take a look at our favorite books!" if you have ordered bulletin board books.
This is a great idea for the upper elementary grades because it sparks interest in students when choosing new books to read. It helps the students to judge a new book based on a description or the first sentence instead of a cover illustration.
