Day Hike at Mount Cook, New Zealand, with Kids. Mount Cook makes for an amazing travel destination on an international road trip. Book a room early so you can stay for sunrise/sunset. If you can, bring a picnic with you and pick from multiple hiking options. The 4 JL's decided to take the Hooker Valley Trail and highly enjoyed it. Read about it on their travel blog. #adventuresofthe4jls #travel #mountcook #newzealand #oceania #roadtrip #hiking #daytrip #travelstories #travelwithkids
It's Friday. Time to make stories to tell on Monday. What adventures have you got planned this weekend?
The Hooker Valley Track is one of the most accessible tracks in the area, and it’s views are incomparable. The track meanders up the valley, crossing suspension bridges and glacial streams, before ending at Hooker Lake, with reflections of Aoraki, Mt Cook. In winter, the lake may be icy or have icebergs floating on the still water. It was the most beautiful winter scene.
If I had to pick a favourite in the South Island, the Mackenzie District (Te Manahuna) would take the prize. Home to New Zealand’s tallest mountain, Aoraki, and out-of-this-world glacial lakes. Over every hill and around every corner, I was pinching myself to make sure it was real. A thousand pictures don’t do it justice, you must see it with your own eyes!!
The Hooker Valley Track provides breathtaking views of Aoraki, Mt Cook all the way to Hooker Lake at the end of the walk, where Aoraki is reflected in the clear glacial waters
