Roman Enamelled Owl Brooch. In early Rome when a dead Owl was nailed to the door of a house it would averted all evil that it supposedly had caused earlier before. When you heard the hoot of an Owl it would mean death. It was said that an owl had predicted the deaths of Julius Caesar, Augustus, Commodus Aurelius, and Agrippa.
