WIPTui Bird half sleeve tattoo from Dean at Sacred TATTOO, Kingsland NZ
I haven't had much luck with the New Zealand endemic bird, the tui (prosthemadera novaeseelandiae) as I usually find them half obscured by branches or in poor light. So I was pleased to get this one last month on Tiritiri Matangi, although it's not too sharp on the face & it is banded. I was pleased to see one here in Southland today as well.
The Tui is an indigenous New Zealand bird, and a national symbol. It is unique in having two syrinxes (two part voice boxes), allowing it to mimic many different birdsongs and other sounds (including human); also giving it a distinctive and quirky song.
