Christchurch Anglican Cathedral
Construction of Christchurch’s iconic Anglican Cathedral was completed in 1904, 40 years after the cornerstone was laid on 16 December, 1864. Located in the aptly named Cathedral Square in the city centre, building began under the leadership of Reverend Henry John Chitty Harper. Over its lifetime, the Cathedral withstood multiple earthquakes. However, it was severely damaged in the February quakes of 2011, and has since been partially demolished.
