A Green Wall Grows in Brooklyn: Colonie Restaurant - Remodelista
Founders Elise Rosenberg, Emelie Kihlstrom and Tamer Hamawi, who opened Colonie, raised money from a Kickstarter campaign to get the restaurant off the ground; they worked with architect Alex Meyers of MADesign, who used reclaimed materials throughout the interior (banquettes are made from repurposed church pews).

Another watering hole with a retro look and feel from nightlife impresario Keith McNally: Schiller's Liquor Bar on the Lower East Side of Manhattan has been open for a few years but seems from another century (all that white subway tile, reclaimed trough sinks in the restrooms, cloudy mirrors, and stenciled signage).
