Day Eight - Fox River Beach
We spent this morning at the Bach watching documentaries. We went to the beach in the photo above, not our photo but the exact place. We waded across the river to the cave, which is actually an arch and two caves. We went into one of the caves, but quickly turned back when we saw a Little Blue Penguin! We didn't want to disturb him so we left the cave. I sat on the beach reading and listening to the waves. I cooked yummy enchiladas for our dinner.
Day 7 - The Denniston Plateau
Had a lovely walk around the old coal mining area in the Denniston Plateau area. We weren't able to get into any mines but there was lots to see, nice views too and a comedy encounter with a week that found a two dollar coin for us!
Day 6 - Truman Track
We walked the Truman Track today, it's only 15 minutes, through the bush then onto a lovely beach with rock formations and water falls. We did part on the Inland Pack Trail today but had to cut the walk short as the track was washed out. Tried to find abandoned mines to explore, no luck.
Day 4 - May 3rd 2021
We chilled out in the bach today. In the early afternoon we saw a dolphin and then this evening a Ruru/Morepork crashed into the patio window! The window wasn't damaged, but in case the owl was, he had a little rest in a box before we carried him down to a safe spot in the bush to release him.
Day three - Punakaiki river by kayak
Today we kayakers along the river. The weather was nice and sunny. There were masses of fantails, a couple of goats, a tui, a comorant and a pair of paradise ducks. Paddling up river was hard for me, I'm not great at kayaking, coming back was fun, there was a little bit that was rapids which was really fun. Looking forward to steak off the BBQ later and chips done in the air fryer, yum yum.
Day II A walk on the beach
The second day of our holiday we have been into Greymouth to buy some bits and jobs we forgot to get yesterday then we went to look at Cobden Cave. We had a walk on the beach and saw this striking red sand. We paddled, it's surprisingly warm for May.
The view from the Waihaha Back- evening 1
This is the gorgeous view from the bach we stayed at from 30th April to 10th May. The journey down was good. The Bach is lovely, it's pictures didn't do it justice. We just went for a night time stroll and saw a possum up a tree.
