Pounamu (New Zealand Jade) Maori Toki by master artist Tyson Lynes. The toki is the blade of and axe with which the great war canoes were carved from giant trees so is said to represent a crafts person or artist.
masterworks gallery Matthew McIntyre-Wilson has studied Art & Design, majoring in jewellery, at both Hawkes Bay Polytechnic and Whitireia Polytechnic. Mathew is of Titahi and Nga Mahanga descent, and is heavily influenced by traditional Maori art.
The honi is a Polynesian greeting in which two people greet each other by pressing noses and inhaling at the same time. This is a very honorific as this represents the exchange of ha--the breath of life, and mana--spiritual power between two people.
