North Head, Devonport, Auckland, New Zealand. Fear of invasion in the late 1800s lead to a defence fort being built at North Head to defend the Rangitoto channel in the Waitemata Harbour. The fort had a series of tunnels leading to heavy guns, ammunition depots and barracks.
Lady On The Rock by Antony Eley on 500px Unveiled at the Whakatane Heads (New Zealand) in 1965 this bronze statue atop Turuturu Rock, lies at the mouth of the Whakatane River and commemorates the bravery of Wairaka, the daughter of Toroa, captain-navigator of the Mataatua waka (maori canoe).
