Untitled musha-e (Warrior Tales) This manuscript consists of 75 pages of hand-drawn copies of musha-e (武者絵), or “warrior prints” dedicated to heroic deeds of brave Japanese historical figures or fictional characters. This genre became wildly popular during the 18th century, due in large part to the artwork of Utagawa Kuniyoshi (歌川 国芳, 1797-1862), nicknamed musha-e no Kuniyoshi, or “Kuniyoshi of the Warrior Prints.”1 Learn more at the ASU Digital Repository Kuniyoshi, Manuscript, Heroic, 18th Century, Genres, Brave, Hand Drawn, Tales
