Privacy and shade solution: attach upright supports & curtain rods to deck, use sunbrella curtains (or bamboo, or whatever) for privacy. Make sure that the curtain material can be fastened to either end post, and tied together when fully closed, so they don't blow around, and weight or fix the bottoms somehow.
