due diligence & the pitfalls

Before focusing solely on new blinds, drapes & shutters, Blinds Online Ltd ran a cleaning & repair department – we have seen all brands – what fails, when it fails, & the pros & cons. From here I chose what manufacturers we use at differing price levels (always monitoring quality), what parts I specify, & how fabrics are cut to ensure our blinds last the distance. We also eliminate all the headaches you won't necessarily anticipate. The following are from 'others' products or services..

This is a PVC Venetian from one of the large national furniture retailers – they still sell it – I commonly hear from enquirers, saying that some sales staff from this company have steered them away from the product. I have a hard time getting people to believe our PVC Venetians are fine – it comes down to the quality of PVC used & whether it was designed for NZ UV conditions! Very few blinds made in NZ use parts that were specifically designed for our harsh sun. Trust – blindsonline.net.nz

Ask to physically touch and view the componentry a company are going to use. Where was it made? For which part of the world was it designed? For NZ sun? If it looks and feels cheap & nasty, it is! Why throw your money away to save a few hundred at the outset. Do it right – Have it look the business and last the distance! – blindsonline.net.nz

Brand new with cute furry fluffy edges – wonder how they'll look in 2–3 years time! It's not hard to cut fabrics right but I see this all the time. Fabric suppliers try to educate manufacturers on how different fabrics have different cutting requirements – but when the pressures on blinds get pumped through the factory. Not at Blinds Online Ltd – I ensure the time & care required is taken – http://www.nocowboys.co.nz/businesses/Blinds-Online-#ratings

So the shoddy install (by others unnamed but known by all) a bit down the page could have been done like this – screws silver and flush, bracket spun 90º so it doesn't protrude from the window frame. Do it right with blindsonline.net.nz

Painters often do this however you should expect better from the company that actually made the blinds – the blind has been installed 90º from where it should be – resulting in the control chain grinding on the guard – not smooth to operate and will lessen the life considerably – get it done once, get it done right – blindsonline.net.nz

Here's that bottom-rail assembled too forcefully issue again causing ripples in the fabric – once the ripples are there they don't come out – this time by another big player that should know better – blinds are made with the care required at blindsonline.net.nz

Yuk!..why couldn't this company use stainless steel screws for a tidier appearance, the correct gauge to prevent the wood splitting, and spin the bracket around 90º so the bracket was tidier when protruding. It had to protrude so the blind didn't hit the door lock but all of this could have been done so much better – we know & take care throughout the whole process – consult, production, install & service – blindsonline.net.nz

Will the installer those other companies use really care? One screw should do. I personally, periodically, randomly check all my installers work. This is not Blinds Online Ltd's work – blindsonline.net.nz

Cheap & nasty powder coating – these Venetians didn't last 2 standard blind cleans. Sorry out of warranty but we'll sell you some new ones! As well as being properly coated our 25mm Venetians blades are the thickest (less likely to be bent or damaged) gauge on the NZ market – test them yourself, I'll send you a swatch – blindsonline.net.nz

Don't just get prices from different suppliers for the same fabric – there's so much more that goes into making lasting blinds. One example: Shame the blind doesn't go right to the bottom because the guy measuring up doesn't know what he's doing & didn't allow for the skirting around the bottom of the room. 7 blinds in total effected. Avoid headaches & go to blindsonline.net.nz

Short term pain or long term replacement costs & headaches – you weigh it up and decide. We only deal in products I've personally vetted from manufacturers I've asked the right questions of. In 6 years 2 clients have asked me a couple questions that actually test whether a product is going to last. Too many people compare prices & think they are comparing 'apples with apples'. You're not. We charge a fair price for the level of real quality you will get – blindsonline.net.nz

How many years are those vertical bottom weights & chains going to last in NZ sun? Where & from what level of polymers were they made? Are there alternatives/different options available to you? What is the stitching made of? Were you going to ask any of these questions or throw your money away? Does the supplier care once the blinds are out of warranty, will they stand by their warranty? I see too many situations that could have been avoided with the right advice & product –…
