Nimble Tui

This is a combination of careful zentangle line work, watercolour and ink. I have tried to make the background nice and light although very detailed so that the bold Tui stands out in all its glory. I wanted this Tui artwork to represent elements of Kiwi life and all the simple yet beautiful things we take for granted.

Inked Fantail - kiwiana

This was part of a series that was commissioned. Each of the New Zealand birds in this set is done in an inked 'tattoo' style. Various outline thickness has been used to create depth. This one is mostly in neutral/realistic colours with a splash of brighter colours. All the backgrounds are similar with a blue blur and a few hashes.

Sacred NZ Kingfisher

A commissioned piece done in colours that are mostly true to the bird. They have the most beautiful turquoise, blue and green blended feathers. With this one I have tried to capture some of the movement in the wings and have positioned the Kingfisher like he is about to land or catch something.

Colourful Fantail

This little Fantail was inspired by geometric shape art, it incorporates may colours while still maintaining a few 'true' colours to the bird. The eye was an important feature for me on this one and I wanted it to be bold and to capturing sole of the painting.

Bold Fantail

This little guy is a combination of styles inspired by tattoo art. The ink work is also has an aspect of geometry while the bold burst of colour help soften the image. This abstract piece represents one of our New Zealand birds, the Fantail, which is a cute and determined little creature.
