The release of Maya Threads couldn’t be timelier as it’s given me an understanding of the Zinacantec weaving transformation. What was plain weave in 1975 is now plain weave covered with embroidered flowers, birds, and/or animals. Within a span of forty years, along with the introduction of the sewing machine, fashion has moved into the 21st century in Zinacantec, Chiapas, Mexico. It symbolizes patience, loyalty, faith, and resistance against difficulties. The Bedouin Jabaliya women, who create the embellished hand arts for the social enterprise FanSina, represent these qualities too. ||ClothRoads.com Art, Indigenous Peoples, Khadi, Tribe, Indigo Dye, Hand Of Fatima, Natural Textiles, Image
