Chinese Brush Painting

I started painting in January 2014 and have since been teaching myself. This is something I have wanted to do since I was a teenager and only now am finding my way.

"Peony Blossom - Let There Be Peace" I painted this gongbi-style (aka meticulous style) on sized xuan paper. Peony in full bloom symbolises peace.

"Peonies" painted by Connie Lam, Auckland, NZ. I painted this on unsized xuan paper. Each petal had to be done in a single stroke...or dab...or dab and drag..with the brush loaded carefully with 3-4 graduated colours to create the effect. In full bloom, the peony symbolises peace. It is also a symbol for nobility and value. A symbol of spring, it is also used as a metaphor for female beauty and reproduction!
