Addiction Facts, know the fiction. "Addiction" is not synonymous with "dependance"; addiction requires a compulsion, despite harm to obtain drugs. Legitimate Pain Patients' bodies will become physically dependent (their bodies will respond to abrupt cessation of medication), but they are not necessarily compulsively seeking their medication.
