Joy Daley, Doreen Foss and Jim Foss are shown outside the Signalbox Dairy, where they all work, in Revans Street, Featherston, in 1980. Restrictions on Saturday shopping in 1945 led to the spread of corner dairies, which were allowed to stay open over the weekend and sell a range of goods.
Ernest Adams cakes
This full-page newspaper advertisement announces the opening of the new enlarged Christchurch bakery of Ernest Adams in 1935. The small print announces that the bakery manages its own poultry farm, producing 25,000 eggs each week.
A newspaper delivery round was one of the ways that boys earned money in the mid-20th century, when this photograph of Peter Williams on his delivery round was taken. Accompanying him is his pet possum.
