It has a sign "sod cottage". A century cob house, Thick walls of compacted mud. Cool in summer, warm in winter. A good colonial building style, especially in the relatively low rainfall region of Central Otago.

Mitchell's Cottage, Fruitlands, Otago, New Zealand - This stone building was erected between 1880 and 1904 by Andrew Mitchell, a gold miner and stonemason. Mitchell learnt his stonemasonry skills in his Shetland Island homeland.
