TIL "the last great tank battle of the century" took place in the middle of nowhere in the Iraqi desert. Since there were no nearby towns or landmarks, the Battle of 73 Easting had to be named after its map coordinates.
Iraq Forces - Salah Aboud Mahmoud (born 1950) is a former Iraqi Army general. Salah took part in battle with coalition forces to take control of the Saudi Arabian city of Khafji. Mahmoud also took part in the Iran-Iraq War of 1980-1988, along with the tank battle of 73 Easting. He was later governor of Dhi Qar Province.
