Do you know what the Spanish word “carne” is? It means meat or flesh. Many years ago my pastor pointed out during his Christmas Mass homily the significance of the Incarnation and what it meant that God was born to us in the flesh and walked among ordinary men. Almost nine months ago we celebrated the Solemnity of the Annunciation, and if you happened to attend Mass that day, you would have heard the same Gospel reading you hear today.// daily devotionals for women catholic

Flesh, Feast, and Feeling Worthy

“But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, ‘Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.’” Luke 10:40 (ESV)

Sometimes our callings are made obvious, just as Peter is called by Christ and given a new name and new identity in Christ in today’s Gospel. (John 1:39) Sometimes the calling is less obvious. No matter how we are called, God leaves the following up to us. Today we celebrate the feast of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, who arrived at her calling after deep pain, starting with the loss of her mother early // daily devotionals for women catholic

The More Interesting Path

There is beauty in being vulnerable with your pain or struggle. - Chelsea Crockett

There is beauty in being vulnerable with your pain or struggle.

Some days I struggle with humility, of allowing myself to be transparent so that those looking at me will see through to Christ. I shadow that clear layer with a dense facade of personal accolades and honor for the achievements I’ve made. I get so caught up in the grandeur of it all that my actions are often fueled by selfish desires. I suppose this is a common struggle in the world we’re living in today. // daily devotionals for women catholic

This is a secret our enemy doesnt want us to know. He wants us to believe we find weakness in rest. But when we trust God at His Word well see Gods strength in amazing ways. And for those of us who have resisted rest this is very good news.

The Buddy Bench - “So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.” Hebrews 4:16 (NLT)

"Lord, show me what stands in the way of intimacy with You, and give me the strength to lay it down - for a season or maybe even forever. I long to be close to You. No matter the cost.

Rolling away that burden you can’t move by yourself

The image of God as our Father is reinforced in today’s First Reading. See what love the Father has bestowed on us that we may be called the children of God. Yet so we are. (1 John 3:1) I do believe that, yet something is off in me. I remember at a retreat, the leader asked us to close our eyes and picture God as a Father interacting with us. I was supposed to imagine Him walking on the beach with me or sitting on a bench talking with me in a garden. // daily devotionals for women catholic
