Ernie Davis - Syracuse (1961), first African-American to win the Heisman Trophy. He was the first pick in the NFL draft by the Washington Redskins, but Redskins owner, George Preston Marshall, was a notorious racist and traded him to the Cleveland Browns. Sadly, he contracted leukemia and never played a single down for the Browns. He died in 1963.
