The Duke of Gloucester was the third son of King George V and Queen Mary, brother of King George VI, and uncle of Queen Elizabeth II. He served as Governor-General of Australia (1945-1947).

QUENTIN BRYCE ~  (born 23 December 1942) was the 25th Governor-General of Australia, holding office from September 2008 until March 2014. She was the first woman to hold the position, and was previously the Governor of Queensland from 2003 to 2008.   Bryce made public comments in November 2013 widely interpreted as supporting an Australian republic and same-sex marriage.

He married Lady Alice Scott, known after their marriage as Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester. He was appointed Regent for his niece Elizabeth in the event that his brother George VI died and she ascended the throne before the age of 18. He served as a soldier most of his life. He also served as the 11th Governor-General of Australia from 1944-1947.
