Mark Twain Cave, Hannibal, Missouri This cave’s maze of passages inspired Mark Twain to write about Tom Sawyer and Becky Thatcher getting lost in McDougal’s Cave. Discovered in the cave also served as a hideout for notorious bank robber Jesse James.
Mark Twain’s stories of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn began in the Mississippi River town of Hannibal, Missouri. We went here as kids with our parents and then we took our daughter here as a kid. A fun little town.
