Australia's Chloe Esposito won Olympic gold in the modern pentathlon as Great Britain failed to land a medal for the first time since the women's event was introduced in 2000.  Esposito won with 1,372 points ahead of France's Elodie Clouvel (1,356) and Poland's Oktawia Nowacka (1,349).  Kate French was GB's highest-placed finisher in sixth place with 1,331.
