Santa Claus comes from St. Nicholas, a Christian bishop living in (what is now) Turkey in the fourth century AD. Nicholas had inherited a great deal of wealth and was known for giving it away to.

Jolly, brisk, mirthful, lively, alert, festive, lighthearted, cheerful, jovial,  joyous…all synonyms for Merry. It’s interesting we only use this word for Christmas…not Merry Birthday, or Merry Anniversary. This year, I hope we all have a very Merry Christmas!
