A homemade Lava Lamp? I'm not sure it could get much better. A little bit craft, a little bit cooking, a little bit science and a whole lot of fun! Come Together Kids: 10 Crafts and Activities for Boys

Veg oil, water, alka seltzer, food coloring, and a bottle. Fill a bottle 2/3 with veg oil and 1/3 with water (keeping in mind to leave 1" at the top). Add 10 drops food coloring. Add 1 alka seltzer (broken in a few pieces, adding one piece at a time - when first piece stops bubbling, add next) and watch the colors.

Indoor Activities for Kids: Homemade Lava Lamps. Vegetable oil, a about of the water bottle, then water. 10 drops of food coloring. Then take a alkaseltzer tab and break it into 4 pieces. Drop one in at a time and wait for each to dissove!

Such simple items can be transformed into a cool activity that blends both science and art.  If you have an empty water bottle, water, vegetable oil and food coloring, you can make this fascinating kid's activity! Salt Volcano: Pour several inches of water into a jar. Add about of vegetable oil. Drop in food coloring and observe what happens. Shake salt on top of the oil/water/food coloring mixture. Pour or sprinkle more salt, as desired.
