Mary Jean O'Donnell Springer's Obituary on New York Times | "Mary Jean was recruited by the Navy as a Lieutenant JG and was sent for naval intelligence training at Smith College. She served in Washington, D.C., during WWII, where she was responsible for gathering and analyzing intelligence on enemy warships, frequently working in the office of Admiral Nimitz."
