God calls Eve ezer kenegdo. The attempts in English are "helper" or "companion". So incredibly wimpy, flat, disappointing! A dog can be a companion. Better translates to "sustainer beside him". The word ezer is used 20 other places in the OT. In every other instance that person being described is God himself, when you need Him desperately. God is your only hope. Your ezer. A better translation of ezer would be "life saver". Kenegdo means alongside, or opposite to, a counterpart.
