Sophia of the Palatinate, more commonly referred to as Sophia of Hanover, was born October 1630 and was the eldest, surviving child of Elizabeth of Bohemia, daughter of James I. Sophia of Hanover.

Sophia Dorothea of Brunswick and Luneburg 1666–1726 was the wife and cousin of George I of Great Britain, and mother of George II. It was a very unhappy marriage and they fought constantly. He was particularly nasty to her, flaunted his mistress and then when she sought a little comfort of her own had her imprisoned. She died, still imprisoned thirty years later.
