The Metamorphosis (German: Die Verwandlung) is a novella by Franz Kafka, first published in 1915. It is often cited as one of the seminal works of fiction of the 20th century and is widely studied in colleges and universities across the western world. The story begins with a traveling salesman, Gregor Samsa, waking to find himself transformed into a monstrous insect-like creature.

The Metamorphosis - Franz Kafka. One of the greatest pieces of literature I've ever read and this quote proves it's brilliance. Kafka has a tendency to put into words what my mind tries groping in the dark for.

I saw this quote from the author of "The Metamorphosis" and I couldn't help but wonder if this was running through Franz's head as a contribution to the underlying allegory of the story.

Unlike Kafka, I have no intentional hidden meaning as to why this acorn suddenly awoke one day as an insect. This was merely an assignment for an art class that I dropped after a week.

Half billion year old hammer embedded in rock that formed 400 MILLION years ago ~ Archaeologists analysed and dated it. The rock encasing the hammer was dated to more than 400 million years old. I found this image interesting as it depicts Gregor's original refusal to accept his transformation. Even though he has been changed into a terrible vermin, he is still only concerned with getting to work on time, as he knows how important his job is to his family.

Preoccupation with the Self: When Gregor is first transformed, he sees himself as a businessman still, but he becomes concerned with his condition and how others will see him;
