HARVESTING GARLIC HEADS...    Most “experts” say to harvest when several of the lower leaves go brown, but five or six up top are still green—and depending on the weather.  Do not pull garlic out by the stems, use a spade to dig them out.  Once unearthed brush off dirt as best you can and hang in a airy, dry place for a minimum of 2 weeks.  It is important to keep them out of direct sunlight.

WHEN TO PLANT GARLIC, THE RIGHT WAY Then I started to work with One Who Knows Her Garlic. Aha! She shared the garlic growers calendar: in eastern Missouri (Zone 6), we plant garlic on Columbus Day (mid October), we cut off garlic scapes on Memorial Day (late May), and we harvest garlic on the 4th of July - each give or take a couple of weeks, depending on Mother Natures moods.

(sadly, I missed the Fall planting other than a few cloves.we shall see. I am just sad I have to wait until October!
