A compact NZ native shrub forming a dense mound of blue-green foliage. The leaves have a red margin which intensifies in colder months. Sprays of white flowers are produced through summer. Sun. Good drainage. Hardy. Evergreen.

The cabbage tree (Cordyline australis) is one of the most distinctive trees in the New Zealand landscape, especially on farms. They grow all over the country, but prefer wet, open areas like swamps; they have lovely scented flowers in early summer, which turn into bluish-white berries that birds love to eat. Growing 12 to 20 metres high, cabbage trees have long narrow leaves that may be up to a metre long.

Wind-up of the NatureWatch NZ project The NatureWatch NZ project was to established to develop new IT functionality for the citizen science community in NZ. Orginally, we created a new instance of the global iNaturalist platform to develop these new functions by building on the iNaturalist open source code.
