Handmade Art Quilt - Flowerburst

This original handmade wall hanging is made from hand dyed and commercial cotton fabrics and kimono silks. The pieces were appliqued with pipping and double batting inside the flower to make it dimensional. The piece was then machine quilted to emphasize the flower. It is 35 inches wide and 43.5 inches in height. A hanging sleeve is sewn on the back of the quilt and comes with a hanging slat.

Rita's Roses

Roses by Rita Verroca About five years ago, I (Kara), was working at the Elly Sienkiewicz Appliqué Academy in Williamsburg. It was my first time helping there, and administrator Bette Augustine had me run a note down to one of the classrooms. As I approached the door, I heard peals of laughter coming from inside, and when I went into the classroom, the hilarity continued. The laughter caught my attention, but it was the amazing quilts that caught my eye. That was my first experience meeting…

Mary Stoudt's Quilted Gorgeousness | American Craft Council

I like the shades of Klimt and Miro in the abstract work of Pennsylvania quilt artist Mary Stoudt.

And some of the subjects felt poignantly Japanese, and I was susprised when the artist wasn’t. (“Garden Nasturtium” by Jungsun Jung)

Stitching-in-Progress

Since Christmas I've been keeping my hands busy with a large stitching project. I've been sharing progress photos on instagram, some of which I included in this "Weekend Five" blog post. I work on my embroidery in fits and starts -- mostly while traveling or during TV time. Here's what it looks like right now: This is my embroidery kit: DMC 6-strand embroidery floss (I divide it and stitch with 2 strands at a time.) Embroidery scissors Mechanical Pencil (This is how I mark the design as I…
