Most of my photos are not straight out of camera - if I want to capture a moment I will use my iphone. If I want a robust file that I can edit I'll jump to one of my Panasonics. Until recently I thought I'd never do video as the files were not able to handle my adjustments (unless you're shooting cinema RAW on a kit that costs more than a Mercedes). However someone just lent me a GH5S which I've been shooting in vlog and the results were exciting enough that now I want a gimbal for…
Those that have worked with me know I've been shooting #panasonic cameras forever (well... since 2008). Their discrete form factor was necessary so I wouldn't stand out in the back streets of China and South America (although to be honest, nothing would stop me from standing out in China...). This was one of the first images I ever shot, an old temple crossing the river that runs through Guiyang city in the heart of Guizhou.
Your host, photographer and cellist Charles Brooks, founder of High Res Tours. For 20 years I traveled the world as a concert cellist, leading orchestras everywhere from China to Brazil. It offered a lot of photographic opportunities, but not as many as I'd have liked! I could have spent more time on the streets and less in the practice room. Bio Bokeh - Glow worms cling to the rock in Waipu caves, north of Auckland, New Zealand. It's like Christmas, but underground...
New Zealand cave lit just by glow worms. It's extremely hard to capture the natural light of these guys. You have to leave the camera open for a long time and hope no one comes by swinging a torch. Since it's a popular tourist spot that usually means waiting until around midnight when everyone has gone home! This was an 8 minute exposure at ISO 1600, f-1.6.
