It is important to explicitly tell the students WHAT they will be learning, HOW they will be successful in mastering that skill and WHY it is an important skill to learn. This is where learning targets and success criteria come in to play.

Success criteria is an effective tool to help your students understand and successfully complete the exact steps needed to meet their daily learning targets and objectives. Based on the third grade Common Core State Standards for all subject areas, these posters can be displayed on a focus wall or bulletin board in your classroom or reduced to a smaller size and used as a checklist by your students to keep track of their progress.
