The Street, West Harptree, North East Somerset BS40. It is just south of Chew Valley Lake on the A368. The village has a pub and several shops including a post office. West Harptree Church (St. Mary)

West Harptree Church (St. Mary), Somerset, 6 August 2017. Founded by the Norman Knight William FitzJohn de Harptree in 1135, the present church consists of a 12th century Norman tower with a 13th Century Early English broach spire, late 14-15th Century Perpendicular south aisle, nave and chancel heavily restored/rebuilt 1865 by C E Giles. Pictured is the south and east elevations.

According to Robinson it is listed in the 1086 Domesday Book as Herpetreu meaning 'The military road by the wood' from the Old English herepoep and treow. The shape of some of the existing fields with cross-slope and down-slope field banks and cultivated ridges forming an interleaving irregular mosaic suggest they are of medieval origin.
