Steampunk Tui Bird
I have always loved steampunk and with my recent exploration of all things 'kiwi' I decided it was time to combine the two. I wanted the painting to portray the story of a smart and cunning Tui with one of its feathers in its hat and a key it its beak implying it's escaped from its cage. I can't wait to do more steampunk artworks and discover the stories they create.

This little guy is a combination of styles inspired by tattoo art. The ink work is also has an aspect of geometry while the bold burst of colour help soften the image. This abstract piece represents one of our New Zealand birds, the Fantail, which is a cute and determined little creature.
The idea of this one came after doing my 'Nimble Tui' painting. I wanted this cute and charming little bird to have more of a rustic side. In the background I have done a weave of cogs, gears, koru and other intertwining patterns.
