Frances Mary Hodgkins (1869–1947) was a painter chiefly of landscape and still life, and for a short period was a designer of textiles. Born in Dunedin, NZ, but spent most of her working life in Britain.She painted into her 70s and was was regarded as one of Britain’s leading artists.

The fusion of still life with landscape was a distinctive theme in Frances Hodgkins' mature work, deriving from artists such as Picasso and Matisse, and first treated by Hodgkins in the late 1920s.
