New Zealand painter, known as Rita McKenzie after 1941. she is credited as one of the leading figures in twentieth century New Zealand art. She worked primarily in oil and water colour, and is well known for her portraits and landscapes. After she died, her family discovered, neatly stacked in her Wellington studio, more than 600 paintings, drawings and sketchbooks. March 12, 1908 - January 25, 1970
