My teacher suggested I focus on flowers because I could not think of a subject. I knew that if I were to do flowers I would want to make it different from anything that would typically be done when photographing flowers.
influenced by: A visual Poem; The Thinker of Tender Thoughts by Shel Silverstein. Jerry Uelsmann Tommy Ingberg Rene Magritte Salvador Dali theme and communicate conformity through surrealist images. Thematically influenced by Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman and Ken Kesey's novel, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, The more surreal images show a manifestation of the man's inner fears and uncertainties, these were also communicated through reception, tone and colour.
This series of work was designed to showcase a wide range of ideas and subthemes correlating with the primary concept of Cultural Assimilation and Adaptation. Initially my intent was to document the effects of these cultural/social practices and processes by staging a visual cultural etiquette series (on a global scale) touching on marginalised groups across the globe, shedding light on their continually evolving culture.
