This amazing young man personified Te Ao Maori, and was an inspiration to his family, his community, and the many lives he touched. I was asked if I could portray him in the act of performing the wero (from a photo)…..something he was renowned for.

This was my Covid Lockdown Alert 4 sculpture where I had an opportunity to have a play. Just chisel a line and see where it takes you ...a mixture of sharp and soft curves....it was all about flow. In the end it felt like there were two new shoots entwined emerging from the turmoil.....new beginnings.

She loved roses ..with 3 leaves to represent the 3 children. I met with the two sons, who relay wonderful memories of a strong, humorous, kind and caring woman. Together we decided on the design of a Rose. I wanted layers and depth, to capture the sun and create shadow in the petals, something strong yet feminine.
