This little guy walks tall and proud. I love the combination of bright red on his beak and legs against the vibrant blue of his feathers. I have tried to keep the inked line work simple to allow as much blue as possible to show through.

Born in Tilburg, Holland, Helena is a self-taught artist currently working with oil pastel and gouache on paper and acrylic on canvas. She works still life into landscapes, and loves the vibrancy and colours of pastels and creates colourful intensity in acrylics as well.
Violet- backed Starling
These little birds are also sometimes called plum-coloured starlings, I was blown away by their beautiful bright feather colours that contrasts amazingly against the white of its breast. I have used a fair amount of ink to capture the shadowed areas around the eye and face but have tried to leave as much violet showing through as possible.
