how many leaves tall are you? Fall (fun way to incorporate an exploration into non-standard measurement during the fall season) Fall Preschool Activities, Preschool Lessons, Preschool Classroom, Kindergarten Math, Educational Activities, Classroom Ideas, Reggio Emilia, Tree Study, 2 Kind

PreK--Preschool Ideas from Noey

I used the die cut machine to make leaves as a measuring tool. Then I measured the children and took pictures. We then made a class book of how many leaves tall they were. One page per child. I placed the book in the math center and they love it. They also got into partners and measured things using different toys. They then had to tell me that the item they were measuring was, for example, 5 bear counters long.

This is a great math center activity for children in preschool or kindergarten. Children would work individually within the small center group. How Science and Art Led to Our Child Created Math Wall

I don't buy things like color, number or letter charts from teacher stores because the kids make them so much more beautiful! I don't have classes make all of the charts every year, but when the children do create the tools, they understand the reason behind them so much more. They take ownership of them and love to use them. When they make these tools, they are more noticeable and don't fade into the background like store bought tools that were there when they walked in on their first day…
