Get more use out of your 100 board
The 100 board is used to help students learn numbers to 100 but did you know you can do a lot more than that with it? The simplicity of this board hides the variety of learning you can do with it. Commonly children empty out the tiles that come with the hundred board and put them onto the correct place on the board using a control board to check their work. However with a couple of creative tweaks you can also use it to help teach place value and encourage mathematical thinking.
Advanced Place Value Task Cards
Our Montessori equipment is great for teaching place value. In Montessori we start quite early with 'big' numbers for example it is not uncommon for a 6 year old to be adding two four digit numbers together. However students aren't always able to articulate the place value of what they are adding.
Fractions and the Stamp Game
A lot of time in Montessori we can get hooked up with 'following the manual.' Is this lesson like the one I learned in my training? Am I teaching it correctly? Is it the correct one in terms of scope and sequence? However I want to encourage you to think about meeting the need of your children through the Montessori equipment. Here in New Zealand at a certain mandated age level students are meant to learn about fractions of an amount e.g. a quarter of 40.
