Vintage tile mittens | I used a dollar tree tile and made it look rustic and old to add character to these adorable wood mittens | By Western Grace home Decor | Hey, guys. It's Mandy from Western Grace and I wanted to try to give tiles a try another try. So I did a live a few days ago and did some mittens and I did the tile and I didn't really love the way that the tile turned out so I wanted to try to give it another go. So what I did was I just took one of those Dollar Tree tiles and painted it black in the color caviar by Dixie Belle. Um I used chalk paint because I thought that it would adhere better. You could probably use any kind of paint though and then I just took some Elmer's glue or school glue, Dollar Tree School glue and put that on there and then I let it dry a little bit. I dried it a little bit so that whenever I put the white paint on, it wouldn't mess up that top coat. So then I went on to painting the base coat on the mittens while I was letting the white paint that I put on top of the glue dry. So just putting the base coat on the mittens and this is Dixie Belle Fluff I again I'm using chalk paint for this whole project but you could use any kind of paint now I'm just going to take some folk art home decor wax you guys know that's my favorite and now I'm just like spreading it pouncing it doing all the things you know not in any kind of random it's like a random pattern I'm not worried about what it's looking like right now because this is just basically to it down into the cracks and I want that brown down in the cracks because then it will look like rust and then I'm adding some cinnamon over the top and kind of mixing it together and pouncing and mixing and just getting it to how I think I like it now to get this rusty look guys I take baby wipe and just wipe over the top of it and this is where it really comes to life I think that this was like the key to getting it to look realistic and really very much like an old rustic tile and if you can see the black under there I I had scratched some places off so that it would reveal the black underneath as well so that's why layers are important y'all layers layers layers so now I'm just taking the sticky backing off and it just peels off guys as you can see I'm not real great at peeling it off but we got it done so just peel off and then I decided to take my Sharpie and just trace around them because I thought that would probably be the easiest way since the sticky wasn't on there and the other night I did it with the sticky on and then it was kind of hard to cut it with my scissors so best advice probably is to do it just the way that I'm doing it now trace around it and cut them out And then I just took some hot glue. And hot glued them on. You could use Z 6000. Um and hot glue or just hot glue. I think the hot glue works just fine. I was afraid that it would melt it but it didn't. So just glued them both on. Now I'm going to take a little tag guys. This is just a little tag you can get from Hobby Lobby or any of the places. I've had it in my stash forever. Um I'm sure you could probably get them at Michael's in the scrapbooking section. Something like that. Then I added some decor wax because I like it to look vintage and now I'm adding a little bit of paint so you'll be able to see what I'm stamping on here so then I'm just going to dry that up real quick add a little more home decor wax around the edges to rusty it up now I'm taking my stays on guys and I'm going to go around the edges this always gives it more dimension again layers layers layers right layers make it what what make it. Now, I'm going to take a stamp. This this stamp set came from Hobby Lobby and this is Versamark Ink. So, basically, it's just like a stick sticky ink. It's clear so you won't be able to see it really. You can kind of see it and if you're wondering what that matte is, it's just a Teflon matte. I'm doing that because I'm going to emboss this. This is embossing powder and I don't want to waste any of my embossing powder so that's why I use my Teflon So then my embossing powder's on there and now I'm just going to use my heat tool and heat it up. And there you go. It's embossed. So now I'm going to take my stays on ink again and go around the edges of the mittens because like I said this just adds so much dimension. Um so we have three layers here. We've got the base layer of black paint. Then we've got white paint. Oh then we have antiquing wax and then we have ink. So four four layers. Now, I'm taking some green ribbon from the Dollar Tree and I loved this color. I thought we should add some color. I almost did the burlap again but then I was like, no, let's add some color. So, and I'm just folding it over trying to make it look neat on the back and then I'm going to take some Jude again and wrap it around the top of the mittens. This is just giving it more layers and makes more dimension. And then, I'm going to tie some rusty bells to the edge which I love these little rusty bells and you can get them on Amazon, guys. That's where I got mine and then, I'm going to take some buffalo plaid ribbon and make a little cute little bow on the on the outside which I fussed with this one. It was giving me fits but it turned out okay. I just stuck a little hot glue to make it stay in place. Yeah, it really was a booger. And then I'm just going to tie my little tag over to the side where the little bells are and fray the edge of it and then there we have them. Now I'm going to take some of the industrial jute that I have. And just tie little knots to make the little hanger. And I hope you guys love this craft. I think it turned out super cute. Looks like vintage tiles to me. And thanks for watching guys. And for more I ideas, tips, and tricks, come join us. Have a great day.
