A fine example of a plate snow crystal photographed nearly 100 years ago by Wilson Bentley at his outdoor laboratory in Jericho, Vermont. This beauty is referred to as a hexagonal (six-sided), sector-like plate crystal with extensions.

real snow crystals that fell to earth in Northern Ontario, Alaska, Vermont, the Michigan Upper Peninsula, and the Sierra Nevada mountains of California. They were captured by Kenneth G. Libbrecht using a specially designed snowflake photomicroscope.
