Fatima Muhammad Al-Fihri (فاطمة محمد الفهري, nicknamed Oum al Banine, meaning the mother of the kids) was a Muslim woman chiefly known as the founder of the world's first academic degree-granting institution of higher education, which is still in operation today as the University of Al-Karaouine in Fes, Morroco.

The university, on the grounds of a grand mosque built by al-Fihri, subsequently produced a slew of leading Muslim thinkers.

Fatima Muhammad Al-Fihri is known as the founder of the world first university. The university is mentioned in both the Guinness World of records and UNESCO and is still operating today under the name Al-Karaouine University.
