The Atchafalaya Basin,[p] or Atchafalaya Swamp, is the largest swamp in the United States. Located in south central Louisiana, it is a combination of wetlands and river delta area where the Atchafalaya River and the Gulf of Mexico converge.
Louisiana Irises (a species of five) are blooming in the swamps and bayous of Louisiana by the millions right now. This color blooms in swampy, wetlands and the rust colored ones grow in drier soil. Photo taken by Coleen Perilloux Landry
